One of our favorite moments of the trip was an organized cooking experience with a local family from the village of Conca dei Marini in Amalfi.
We had decided beforehand that the best way to experience and remember the cuisine of the region would be to immerse ourselves into local family life and learn first-hand what goes into popular Italian meals. Through Hotel Santa Caterina and American Express Fine Hotels , we were able to find a perfect match for our request.
Right away, the family picked us up from our hotel and drove us 10 minutes to their coastal home. As soon as we entered, we immediately were greeted with hugs and kisses from "Nonna" or grandmother and her chef de cuisine granddaughter-it felt as though we were visiting long lost relatives.
The three hour experience had us make bruschetta and eggplant parmigiana as an appetizer, followed with a baked lemon and olive local fish with ricotta gnocchi and a lovely tiramisu as dessert. We enjoyed our family meal on their outside terrace with the best view of all Amalfi and Positano.
At the end of our meal- we were beyond stuffed, but even more so our hearts were full of love for this new family we had just met.
