Beyond The Wall | Private Styling with Alexander Wang

With increasing competition in the luxury goods market and a growing number of price conscious consumers,  designer brands are going beyond the traditional brick-and-mortar/ e-commerce customer experience to really connect and engage with consumers.

High-end brands such as Alexander Wang, Saint Laurent, Dior, etc. are establishing meaningful connections with high value clients through exclusive opportunities such as "Meet-the Designer" and red carpet access to fashion shows and celebrity packed events.

Last week, we were invited for a private Fall 2016 collection styling session with Alexander Wang at their flagship location.  Over a two- hour time period, we learned first-hand about Alex [first name basis now ;)]  his inspirations, Fall 2016 /Spring Summer 2017 collections, and last but not least- styling and fitting by Alex based on his creative direction.

Check out pictures and videos from our bucket-list experience with Alex above!

NyitGirls Travel Edition | Boho Cover Ups

Aren't you glad fringe is still having its moment? We were immediately drawn to these boho silky fringe cover ups from Top Shop.  The paisley patterns, loud pops of color, fringe, and silk material are what Pakistani and Indian, (desi) clothes are known (and loved) for (so we were obviously obsessed). We really liked the fact that we could wear these kimono inspired cover ups not only to the beach, but also over a pair of jeans and a white tee for brunch in the city.

NYitGirls x Travel Edition | Fringe and Flare

Sana: Reformation 'Antonia' Black Off the Shoulder Dress |  Saint Laurent 'Anita' Small Crossbody | Chloe Sandals | Choker: Etsy

Saman: For Love and Lemons 'Elenora' Maxi Dress

While enjoying the warm weather in Ibiza , we were able to squeeze in an island inspired photo shoot with the amazing Maria Simon.

Our inspiration for the second part of the shoot involved mixing eclectic finds from our local island shopping adventures as well as the fringe and flare of some high-end glamour. After beginning the shoot on a local public beach, we adventured into a local fishing village to take in the artisanal style of the bay and the beautiful colored doors.

Sana's  90's inspired vintage look was brought to life with an off the shoulder Reformation dress, Zara boater hat, Oliver People x The Row round sunnies,  thick black velvet choker from Etsy,  Saint Laurent fringe bag and Chloe lace up sandals

Saman's dreamy For Love and Lemons floral dress represented the energy of the island and Spanish culture.  Saman paired her dress with sunnies from Illesteva and  wedges from Revolve.

Oh hello beautiful Spain, how we miss you. We are back in NYC, and all we have left from summer is a fading tan, and some photos. Luckily we knew Spain would be one hell of a photo opportunity and made sure to link up with renowned photographer Maria Simon, and UK make up artist Lauren Buckley for a #NYitGirl photo shoot.

Maria has photographed spreads for Elle Magazine, FHM, Marie Claire and more, and has even captured celebs like Lady Gaga and Craig David, so we would be lying if we said we were not nervous. That being said we can't begin to stress how down to earth, talented and easy going both of these ladies were. We both agreed this was our favorite shoot to date, and although we are not models, they sure let us feel like we were (for about an hour ;D)

We decided our theme for this shoot would be whimsy. There is something elegant and innocent about white lace and cream colored net, which is what Saman wore from For Love and Lemons (this is discounted on Gilt). Sana on the other hand chose an off the shoulder C/MEO COLLECTIVE romper in ivory, with pearl embellishments from Intermix. The looks we were going for were light and effortless, with the focus on attention to detail.

One of our favorite accessories this summer were handmade straw hats we had made custom in NYC. These hats served a dual purpose: protecting our skin from the harsh UV rays of the Spanish sun, and looking chic at the same time.

NYitGirls x Travel Edition | Amalfi Cooking Experience

One of our favorite moments of the trip was an organized cooking experience with a local family from the village of Conca dei Marini in Amalfi.

We had decided beforehand that the best way to experience and remember the cuisine of the region would be to immerse ourselves into local family life and learn first-hand what goes into popular Italian meals. Through Hotel Santa Caterina and American Express Fine Hotels ,  we were able to find a perfect match for our request.

Right away, the family picked us up from our hotel and drove us 10 minutes to their  coastal home.  As soon as we entered,  we immediately were greeted with hugs and kisses from "Nonna" or grandmother and her chef de cuisine granddaughter-it felt as though we were visiting long lost relatives.

The three hour experience had us make bruschetta and eggplant parmigiana as an appetizer, followed with a baked lemon and olive local fish with ricotta gnocchi and a lovely tiramisu as dessert.  We enjoyed our family meal on their outside terrace with the best view of all Amalfi and Positano.

At the end of our meal- we were beyond stuffed, but even more so our hearts were full of love for this new family we had just met.

The end of summer can sometimes be daunting for New Yorkers, as we sense winter is coming. For this reason, we saved 'New York it Girl', The Travel Edition until now to bask in our summer glory one last time.

First stop was Italy, The Amalfi Coast where we stayed at the Hotel Santa Caterina Resort. Amalfi is one of the Mediterranean's brightest and most glittering coastal gems, and the Santa Caterina is a seaside  residence from the 19th century. The resort offered us history, scenic views, crystal clear water, and most importantly delicious pasta that we ate late night pretty much everyday.

Amalfi is one of those places that can exude simplistic elegance, and luxury all at the same time. Coastal glamour was an inspiration for our first shoot. We selected soft, organic fabrics in cotton and linens that would drape and flow naturally. We also incorporated pieces with tassle and fringe, paired with accents of coral and blue to contrast nicely with the sea. To add a wow factor, we accessorized. Sana paired her look with a handmade wooden clutch by Cult Gaia, while Saman chose a cashmere silk sea blue scarf from Etro , and tassle clutch by Saint Laurent to add a touch of luxe. We could not have asked for a better start to our holiday.

Stay tuned for more details on our trip!
